Volcano: Coming Together for the Longest Spring

Volcano is a photo book that pays respect to the rich subcultural history of North America's longest ski season. Mt. Hood's Timberline lodge attracts dedicated snowboarders and skiers who travel from all over the country as the rest of the country's slopes close up shop in mid may. Through a mix of composed digital action shots and candid point-and-shoot film, Volcano documents the dramatic beauty of snow sports and volcanic terrain, as well as the spontaneous moments that give this culture its soul. I drew inspiration from the counter-cultural ethos and raw energy of the media made here from the late ’80s through early 2000s, and tried to carry that spirit forward — the spirit of being together for the longest spring.
